PRINTING SPECIFICATIONS

Newsprint roll widths: 47" – 35.25" – 23.5" – 11.75".

  • Single sheet size: 11.75" x 21". Image area 10.875" x 19-9/16".
  • MAN Roland offset press computer to plate.
  • All halftones should be 120-line screen. Please do not submit ads with screens higher than 120 lines per inch.
  • Any shadow in excess of 90 percent can be expected to print solid black.
  • Type set below 5 point is difficult to read and should be avoided.
  • Reverse copy should be set in a bold san serif typeface.
  • Sharp, in-focus images reproduce much better than “soft” focus photos.
  • A well adjusted image will have clean bright highlights, a full range of midtones balanced with good shad-ows to bring out contrast in the image. Images that lack contrast will look flat in print. Use the unsharp mask filter on all images to increase contrast in detail areas.
  • The Grand Rapids Press electronically paginates the newspaper and typesets pages directly to plate. Non-electronic advertising materials will be subject to several generations of quality loss in the pagination pro-cess. Please submit electronic files for best reproduction.

ROP DEPTH REQUIREMENTS

ROP ads will be billed in 1/4 inch increments. Minimum display ROP ad size is 1 column by 1 inch in depth. For tabloid page, copy exceeding 8.5" will be charged as full column 10.5". On a standard page, copy exceeding 16.5" will be charged as full column depth of 19.5".
